NAB predicts bumper Mother’s Day shopping spree

Australians will hit the shops in record numbers ahead of Mother’s Day, with NAB predicting it will process more than 29 million transactions between today and this Sunday.

NAB General Manager for Transaction Services, Simone Van Veen, said NAB is expecting customers will make more than 29 million transactions using ATMs, EFTPOS, debit and credit cards in the next three days.

“From today, we’re predicting a peak in transaction levels, as people buy their mums, grandmothers, partners and sisters cards, gifts, and flowers to tell them how much they mean to them,” Ms Van Veen said.

“Approximately 10.2 million transactions will take place the day before Mother’s Day, approximately 1 million above the average transactions for a Saturday.”

This year, NAB predicts customers will make approximately 6.4 million more transactions compared to this time two years ago.

“In 2015, we processed 22.6 million transactions in the days leading up to Mother’s Day. For the same time this year, we expect to see 29 million transactions,” Ms Van Veen said.

“Shoppers should plan ahead as much as possible, to make sure they treat their loved ones this Mother’s Day.”
