Statement regarding former Garvan Financial Planning adviser, Patrick Mitchell
Garvan Financial Planning welcomes both the successful conviction and ASIC’s decision to permanently ban Mr Patrick Mitchell, a former authorised representative of Garvan, from providing financial services.
Garvan General Manager Matthew Fogarty said as soon as concerns were raised about Mr Mitchell, an internal investigation commenced, and Garvan worked closely with Tasmanian Police and reported the matter to ASIC.
“Advisers must do the right thing by their customers at all times, but this was not the case for Mr Mitchell,” Mr Fogarty said.
Mr Fogarty confirmed that Garvan continues to work with the client referred to in ASIC’s statement in order to resolve the loss they have suffered because of Mr Mitchell’s criminal conduct.
Garvan has also written to all of Mr Mitchell’s former clients outlining our concerns regarding his conduct.
If any customer believes they may have been a victim of Mr Mitchell, we encourage them the contact us on 1800 997 318.
