With funding from the NAB Foundation, not-for-profit charity organisation, Container of Dreams will construct a small house for a woman who is still homeless from the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires.

Conceived in 2014, Container of Dreams believes houses are a human right, converting shipping containers into tiny homes for homeless people. The charity offers crisis, emergency, transitional and permanent housing to people in need.

Based in northern News South Wales, Container of Dreams has built a small fleet of tiny homes on wheels to deploy in emergencies and natural disasters.

Vital support

Container of Dreams Founder and CEO, Dr Clare Urquhart, believes without the NAB Foundation’s generosity, her charity organisation wouldn’t be able to continue its important work.

“The tiny home built with this NAB Foundation Community Grant will be given to a woman who is still undergoing extremely tough circumstances and is still homeless. She just wants to be able to return to her land and have a safe place to recover,” Dr Urquhart said.

“Applying for a grant from the NAB Foundation was easy. The process was simple and straightforward, but the impact is immeasurable. I’d encourage all community groups to apply for these vital grants.”

Local volunteers help build the tiny homes, which creates community connection for people impacted by the bushfires.

NAB Retail Executive, Krissie Jones, said NAB Foundation is all about creating a positive and lasting impact on the organisations that it partners with.

“The NAB Foundation is extremely proud to help people and places better prepare for natural disasters and assist in their long-term recovery. We’re thrilled to support the important work of community organisations like Container of Dreams,” Ms Jones said.
