NAB has today added its support to the Government’s COVIDSafe app.

“It’s been heartening to see that Australia is flattening the curve and if the COVIDSafe app can play its role in improving community safety, helping reopen businesses and regain some of our normal lives then that’s a good thing for all Australians,” NAB CEO Ross McEwan said.

“There’s clearly still a long way to go but improvements in contact tracing methods, further development of this app, and more testing of those with symptoms will be important to providing the confidence to slowly loosen restrictions while preserving progress on the health front.”

Mr McEwan said he intends to download the app and will send a note to NAB’s 34,000 employees about its release.

NAB continues to provide assistance to its customers and has sent more than nine million emails and 200,000 text messages about its COVID-19 support measures so far. On Friday, NAB launched a new dedicated hotline (1800 JOB KEEPER) and webpage for customers to get quick access to funds ahead of the Government’s JobKeeper payments.

In addition, NAB has proactively called almost 25,000 customers about digital banking education and support, which has seen 2500 passbook customers apply for their first debit card, with 80% of these over the age of 75.

“Many of these customers would never have considered banking digitally in the past but with the help of our bankers are quickly adapting to the new change,” Mr McEwan said.

Digital banking facilities have played an important role supporting customers with their banking needs through the COVID-19 crisis with NAB internet banking and mobile app recording more than 120 million logins from 1 March to 20 April, a rise of 12 per cent from the same period last year.
