National Australia Bank (NAB) has again ranked amongst the global industry leaders in the 2016 Dow Jones Sustainability Index, with a score of 95 out of 100.

It is the highest score achieved by NAB in the 14 years it has participated in the index, and a full point higher than its 2015 rating of 94.

The result recognises NAB as a global leader in the priority areas of financial inclusion, corporate citizenship and philanthropy, climate strategy, environmental reporting, anti-crime policy measures, customer relationship management, financial stability and codes of conduct and related policies.

NAB’s General Manager of Corporate Responsibility, Jodi Geddes said: “This recognition as a global leader in terms of sustainability and corporate citizenship is testament to the relentless efforts of our people and partners to continually improve and do better for our customers, investors and the community.

“Instrumental to this year’s result are our close and long-standing working relationships with key community partners.”

Key partners include:

  • Good Shepherd Microfinance with whom NAB tackles financial exclusion
  • Kildonan Uniting Care with whom NAB delivers relief to customers experiencing hardship
  • Philanthropy Australia with whom NAB partners on a fund to drive the development of social enterprise by not for profits.

Further information on NAB’s corporate responsibility programs is available on the NAB website.

Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) is the longest-running global sustainability benchmark worldwide and has become a key reference point for sustainability investing. The index aims to identify the organisations that successfully manage sustainability opportunities and risks and therefore represent a greater ability to create value over time.  It assesses companies on an average of 600 economic, environmental and social data-points that have been proven to be relevant to the investment process.

NAB has participated in the DJSI since 2003.
