In the latest episode of NAB Digital Next, guest host Alex Garkavenko, NAB’s Associate Director in Innovation & Partnerships, Insights speaks with Kriv Naicker. Kriv is a strategic advisor in disruptive technologies and disruptive market models working for Synaptec, a New Zealand-based innovation and strategy advisory organisation.

During the chat, Alex and Kriv focus on:

  • The concept of ‘hype cycles’ and how they are a useful tool to understand global trends
  • How we understand the maturity of technologies
  • How we can experiment on disruptive technologies – such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) – in a strategic way
  • How disruptive technologies are intensely data driven.

The Hype Cycle framework – as developed by Gartner – is a tool individuals, businesses and government can use to help understand the waves of a technology’s evolution, including the relationship between media visibility and commercial maturity.

“Hype” plays a large part in the adoption of new technologies. It is both a response to and a catalyst for new trends and developments.

How do you discern what is just ‘hype’ from what is commercially viable? Listen to the full episode on SoundCloudSpotify or Apple Podcast.
