This Boxing Day, NAB processed a record 5.7 million ATM, EFTPOS, debit and credit card transactions.

This was an increase of more than one million transactions than 2013 (4.7 million) and two million more transactions than 2012 (3.8 million).

The peak transaction rate recorded was 147 transactions per second. This peak time occurred at 1:00pm.

NAB Executive General Manager Consumer Lending, Angus Gilfillan, said customers were out shopping in record numbers this Boxing Day.

“NAB saw almost 5.7 million customer transactions this Boxing Day – that’s an increase of about one million more than last year,” he said.

“At around 1:00pm, customers were shopping at a peak transaction rate of 147 transactions per second.”

NAB had predicted Wednesday 23 December would be Australia’s busiest shopping days for the festive season, and subsequently processed a record 9.9 million transactions on this day.

Also on the 23rd, NAB saw records break for internet and mobile internet banking, with around 1.9m logins to internet banking, of which 63% came from a mobile device.
