Up and coming Indigenous artists will have their artwork on show thanks to a unique partnership between NAB and the Pamanyugan Elders Alliance.

The partnership will see original artwork by three indigenous artists from the Moreton Bay region displayed and sold in four NAB stores in Caboolture, Kippa-Ring, Strathpine and Chermside.

The official opening of the display on 8 July coincides with NAIDOC Week (7 – 11 July), a national annual celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Dion Crowe, NAB Retail General Manager of Queensland said, “We want our stores to reflect our local communities and this is a great opportunity for NAB to celebrate local Indigenous culture with our customers.”

NAB Chermside store manager, Danielle Quinn has been involved with the Pamanyugan Elders Alliance for the past 12 months, helping out with the planning and preparation of their NAIDOC celebrations last year.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with the local Indigenous community over the past 12 months. This is a great opportunity to showcase the brilliant work of these talented young artists,” Ms Quinn said.

The agreement between NAB and the Pamanyugan Elders Alliance has stemmed from a growing relationship NAB has with the Indigenous community.

Uncle Wayne, an Elder of the Pamanuyugan Alliance hopes that this will enhance reconciliation for the greater community.

“The First Nations Peoples Art Project that the Pamanyugan Elders and the NAB are partners in, is delivering to the community an insight into the culturally diverse art of the indigenous people of the Moreton Bay region,” Uncle Wayne said.

The official opening of the art gallery will be on 8 July at the NAB Caboolture store, with artwork also on display at the Kippa-Ring, Strathpine and Chermside stores.

The art work will be displayed in store and will be for sale with prices under $500. Proceeds go to the artist, with the Elders taking a small administration fee.

NAB’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), addresses Indigenous disadvantage through four key areas: building business partnerships with Indigenous Australia; promoting financial inclusion; building access to real jobs; and raising cultural understanding and awareness among NAB staff of Indigenous Australians and their culture.

NAB’s RAP is the only RAP in Australia to be independently verified by an external auditor, Ernst & Young. The 2014 RAP retains the ‘Elevate’ status awarded by Reconciliation Australia that NAB was the first and sole recipient of in 2013.
